Tiger
2
6-14-20
The
day before I had a rainy hike.
This morning the radar showed it was clear. I needed to be home early
so I headed to Tiger Mountain. I arrived at 7:44 am. I was on my way by
7:47 am. I was pleased to see only four other cars. I was out just
ahead of one group. It rained much of the day and night before but it
was dry all day. The muddy spots were very muddy. Most of the trail was
not bad. Not a lot to say about a hike up Tiger 2. I saw four hikers
while heading up. Two were at trail junctions. No difficulty passing
with a social distance. Temperature was in the low 50s most of the day.
It did clear up and warm near the bottom on the way down.
Nearing Tom's Crossing and above I was in the clouds. No view out at
all. Not much in the way of wildflowers blooming. I saw starflowers, a
few bleeding hearts, and several patches of wild ginger. The ginger
flowers were almost all not yet open. I moved a number of leaves aside
before finding one in full bloom. The overcast sky and recent rain did
really bring out the brown and green colors. Good enough that 15
minutes into the hike I decided to start taking photos. A report on
Tiger is rare. The colors were good enough to put one up this time.
I reached the summit in the not so outstanding time of 1:49. I spent
seven minutes on top and headed down. I saw only two hikers until
crossing the large wooden bridge. Then it started getting a bit busier.
A group of four and then another foursome. They accounted for 8 hikers
after seeing just 6 all the way up and almost a mile down. More groups
as I descended. By the time I reached the Lingering Trail junction I
had seen 20 folks. The last 1.4 miles saw 25 more. At one point I went
well off the trail and just waited for three groups to move past. No
big deal. With all the photo and stops to pass folks I added time to my
descent. I reached my car at 11:20 am. I took 1:37 to come down. Totals
for the day were 7 miles with 2400' of elevation gain.
